I request authorization from the City Commission to negotiate
for the purchase of Lot 1, Block 23, Key Acres Addition to the
City of Salina, at a maximum price of $45,000. This property
is located at the intersection of Key and Belmont Boulevard.
The lot contains 1.41 acres and would be sufficient to locate
a South Salina fire station.
I anticipate taking an option on this property until about
August 15, 1981. Over the next 2 months, the Fire Department
will hold meetings with the neighbors in the area to explain
plans for a fire station and to obtain their reaction and,
hopefully, support.
I do not anticipate construction for several years, likely
within a 5-year period. The major challenge will be to obtain
financing.
This is the best available location for a fire station in this
area. Since the property is available now at a reasonable price,
I feel it should be purchased.
Of course, if it comes to pass that the Commission decides not
to build at this location, this property could be sold for at
least the purchase price.
