Consideration of an agreement between the City of Salina and Saline County pertaining to
acquisition of equipment for emergency preparedness purposes.
BACKGROUND:
Saline County Emergency Management, acting as an agent for Saline County recently acquired
emergency response equipment through a Department of Justice Grant. The equipment is to be
used for response to incidents using Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). It was agreed that the
City of Salina Fire Department, which has personnel trained to effectively use the equipment, should
be given the equipment at no cost. The value of the equipment is approximately $35,000.
The attached agreement transfers the equipment to the City of Salina with the understanding that
the city is responsible for maintenance and replacement, if applicable. The agreement also
stipulates that the City of Salina will provide assistance with WMD and hazardous materials incidents
within Saline County that city staff is trained for and capable of handling. This is consistent with our
mutual aid policy that already exists.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the agreement for transfer of emergency response equipment from
Saline County to the City of Salina.
