KDHE Settlement Agreement
· The City Manager discussed the contents of a draft agreement which outlines the
project scope, work to be performed, affected area, claims release, penalties and
certain remedial actions.
· Dennis outlined the remediation process, time frame, parties involved, and potential
costs.
· He said that the City is in the process of determining future project costs with the
environmental consultant of Camp, Dresser and McKee.
· Dennis also discussed the various risks associated with the City taking the lead role to
remediate the groundwater issue.
Planned Intersection Traffic Signal Changes
· Shawn O'Leary reviewed for the City Commission prevalent accidents at three of the
City's more dangerous intersections (Ninth and Magnolia, Ninth and Saturn, and
Saturn and Planet).
· He also showed a film which illustrates the difference between traffic signals which
have a protected green left-turn arrow and those which have a permissive green light
or a combination of the two. He went on to discuss the proven benefit of the protected
green left-turn arrow at intersections with high traffic volumes.
Iron Street Bridge Christmas Light Request Update
· The City Manager provided the Commission with a brief update on the request by the
Salina Christmas Committee to place decorative lights on the Iron Street Bridge.
CITIZENS OPEN FORUM ITEMS
A Continental Analytical Laboratories representative was here to express his desire to work for
the City or its consultant for local groundwater services.
