04-20-2011 MinutesSALINA ARTS & HUMANITIES COMMISSION April 20, 2011 The monthly meeting of the Salina Arts and Humanities Commission was held at the Smoky Hill Museum Community Room at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. In attendance: Shirley Braxton, Kaylee Brown, Dale K. Cole, Steve Hoekstra, Rachel Loersch, Gayle McMillen, Betty Schmidt and Dawn L. Smith. Absent: Lynne Ryan and David Stueve. Staff Attendance: Brad Anderson, Sharon Benson, Kathy Burlew, Krystal Norris and Karla Prickett. Museum Staff: Susan Hawksworth, Nona Miller and Lisa Upshaw. McMillen called the meeting to order at 4:01 p.m. Focus Time: Staff Presents Festival Goals Staff presented their goals and discussion followed. Smith — last year it rained for the Art Patron breakfast. Have arrangements been made to make this transition smoother? Prickett — Yes. Hoekstra — regarding Karla's goal with including art patron businesses, is this opportunity for new and existing businesses? Prickett — yes. Minutes Cole motioned to approve the March 16, 2011 minutes and Loersch seconded. Motion passed. Staff Reports McMillen — the new book 8 Wonders of Kansas is available in the Museum. The Big Ideas Update Nothing new to report. Board Nominating Committee a. 2 renewals — Lynne Ryan and David Stueve b. 1 renewal — Rachel Loersch Executive Committee plus Betty Schmidt will serve on the nominating committee and will discuss potential people to serve on the Salina Arts and Humanities Commission. Expressions of Interest forms will need to be submitted from interested individuals. Business a. SAHC Bylaws — Burlew will make the changes discussed and enclose them in the packets for next meeting. b. Dates to Remember First Thursday — May 5 Next Meeting — Wednesday, May 18 @ 4:00 p.m. optional 3:30 to look at Festival display. c. Art a la Carte fliers were distributed. Adjourn Loersch motioned to adjourn the meeting and Cole seconded. Motion passed. /kab
