Purchase of Thermal Imaging Cameras to be used by the Salina Fire Department.
BACKGROUND:
The Salina Fire Department recently participated in a consortium with the following cities; Lawrence, Newton,
Pittsburg, Wichita and Sedgwick County for the purpose of evaluating various Thermal Imaging Cameras. This
evaluation process consisted of demonstrations by company representatives and use in actual fire conditions. This
equipment will greatly increase our rescue and firefighting capabilities and enhance firefighter safety.
As a result of the consortium, vendors provided statewide pricing for the purchase of cameras and optional
equipment. The following pricing was received by the cities represented:
ISG Thermal Imaging Systems, Ltd. $19,000.00
Fire Research Corporation $17,500.00
Conrad Fire Equipment, Inc. $17,950.00
Danco Emergency Equipment Co. $16,368.00
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the purchase o£ two (2) Scott Thermal Imaging Cameras with wireless video link from
Danco Emergency Equipment Co. £or a total price of $32,736.00
FISCAL:
The 1999 Vehicles & Equipment budget allows $24,000 for this equipment. A contribution has recently
been received by the City in the amount of $10,000 dedicated to this project, thus allowing the purchase of
two cameras. The individual who made this contribution wishes to remain anonymous.
