The curbing, guttering, paving and grading of
Cherokee Drive from Cloud Street to Republic Avenue.
BENEFIT DISTRICT
The west half of Lots 1 through 14, and all of Lots
15, 16 and 17, Block 1, and all of Lots 1 through 9, Block
7, Likens Foster Addition, and the west half of Lots 1
through 16, and all of Lot 17, Block 1, and Lots 1 through
8, Block 7, Cloud Addition, and the east 200' of Prairie
Village Mobile Home Park Addition, and that part of the
southwest quarter of Section 23, Township 14 South, Range
3 west, lying west of Cherokee Drive and north of Cloud
Street, all in Salina, Saline County, Kansas.
APPORTIONMENT OF COST
CHARGEABLE TO PROPERTY:
1. 100% of the total cost of the curbing, guttering,
paving and grading adjacent to privately owned
property.

ADOPTION OF ASSESSMENT
The assessment with accrued interest to be levied
as a special assessment tax upon the property included
within the benefit district concurrent with the general
property tax and shall be in ten (10) equal annual in-
stallments.
The method of assessment shall be based on the
adjusted front footage of each lot of land and without
regard to buildings or improvements of land.

SUBJECT: SURFACING OF CHEROKEE STREET
COMMISSIONERS:
WE THE PEOPLE OF SALINA LIVING IN THE CITY PROPER WISH TO
MAKE A PROPOSAL FOR RESURFACING OF THE STREET OF CHEROKEE
FROM REPUBLIC TO CLOUD STREETS.
WE LIVE ADJACENT TO SAID STREET. WE ARE LITERALLY GETTING
SMOTHERED IN DUST EVERY DAY FROM TRAFFIC THAT HAS INCREASED
OVER THE YEARS SINCE THIS AREA HAS DEVELOPED, WE HAVE A
TRAILER PARK IN THIS AREA THAT HAS INCREASED TRAFFIC
IMMENSELY.
FOR A LONG TIME THE SURFACE OF THIS STREET WAS A HARD SURFACE
BUT ABOUT TWO OR THREE YEARS AGO THIS SURFACE WAS TAKEN UP BY
THE CITYAND NOW IT IS NOTHING BUT A DUST BOWL::
WE CANNOT HANG OUR LAUNDRY OUT TO DRY OR OPEN OUR WINDOWS
BECAUSE OF THE DUST. IT IS NST IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP ANYTHING
CLEAN BECAUSE OF DUST, DUST; DUST!
WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MR. DON HOFF, THE ASSISTANT CITY ENGINEER,
THAT PROPOSALS HAVE BEEN MADE BEFORE TO HAVE CHEROKEE STREET
SURFACED, BUT THEY HAVE BEEN TURNED DOWN. AT ONE TIME IT WAS
A COUNTY ROAD BUT NOW WE UNDERSTAND IT IS CITY PROPERTY!
MR. MELVIN WHO HAS A TRAILER PARK IN THIS AREA HAS PROBABLY NOT
BEEN IN FAVOR OF A NEW SURFACE FOR HE WOULD CARRY A LARGE
PORTION OF THE TAXES. THEREFORE, AS SOME OF US ARE TAXPAYERS
FOR THIS STREET WE MOST LIKELY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET THE
NECESSARY VOTE TO CARRY FOR A NEW SURFACE.

the following proposed improvement: The curbing, guttering, paving, and grading
of Cherokee Drive from Cloud Street to Kepunlic
hereby propose that such improvement be made in the manner provided by Article
6a, Chapter 12, of the Kansas Statutes Annotated, as amended.
(B) The estimated or probablg cost of s�h rov ent is One hundred ninty-six

(C) The extent of the proposed improvement district to be assessed is as indicated
