SUBJECT: Water Services and Meter Installations
The following list of Water Department Regulations are now in effect for all
new water service installations and all new or relocated water meter installa-
tions within public right-of-way. Any prior regulations and policies of the
Water Department that are in conflict with the following regulations are
hereby void.
(a) Plumbers and contractors shall check with the Water
Department regarding specifications for all meter
settings and water services.
(b) The details shown on the enclosed seven (7) standard
drawings shall govern all future water meter installations.
(c) No meter box shall be located closer than two (2) feet
from the edge of a driveway approach.
(d) No meter box shall be located in a sidewalk area.
(e) All meter boxes shall be set on bricks or concrete to
prevent settlement of the box.
(f) All meter box lids twenty-four (24") inches in diameter
or larger shall have at least four (4) bolts (3/8" X 5")
attached to the lid and projecting through the underside
of the lid to keep the lid from slipping off the meter box.
(g) The plumber or contractor shall install an eighth bend
couplingq on the corporation stop before attaching the
one (1") inch copper service line to the corporation
stop at the main, if the main has less than four and
one half (4-1/2') feet of cover. This fitting shall
be turned downward to insure maximum cover for frost
protection on the service line.
(h) All curb cocks shall be either Mueller Co. (H-15200 or
H-15201) or approved equal.

(i) All curb boxes shall be Mueller Co. (H-10350) (4' to 5-1/2'
depth range) or approved equal.
(j) The plumber or contractor shall install a bronze gate valve(s),
150 psi working pressure, (Stockham B-128) or approved equal
in the meter box as 'shown on the attached drawings for all
meter installations requiring a one and one half (1-1/2")
inch or two (2") inch meter. All piping and fittings within
the meter box shall be bronze, brass, copper or cast iron
materials.
(k) A copper meter yoke shall be installed by the plumber or
contractor when plastic service pipe is used from the meter
box to the building. This yoke shall be Mueller Co. (H-14000)
or an approved equal.
(1) Damaged or lost meter box lids or curb cock lids shall be
replaced by the consumer as soon as possible. Consumer is
liable for accidents due to broken or lost lids.
(m) A plumber or contractor desiring a variance or waiver on any
of the above regulations shall make written application for
"such variance or waiver to the Director of Engineering and
Utilities. The Director of Engineering and Utilities shall
have the sole authority to grant or deny any such application.
