ADMINISTRATIVE BRIEF FROM MARSHALL PERRY
The Bicentennial Center staff is staying busy with upcoming events including the Doo-Wop concert
th
scheduled for July 24. This concert has been planned to coincide with the “Lead Sled” event in
Oakdale Park on July 23-25 and adds another attraction for the many car show attendees.
Last year over 1,000 cars were registered (of every shape, size and style imaginable) to participate
in the Kustom Kemps of America (KKOA) car show held in Thomas Park, and has been there since
2005. This show moved to Salina from Ohio and it has been well received from residents and
others that travel from all over the country.
The Bicentennial Center worked with Parks and Recreation and Visit Salina to convince the
organizer of “Lead Sled” to move the event to Oakdale Park for 2010. The larger park, parking
availability, and Bicentennial Center concert, should make for a great weekend for car enthusiasts.
The concert is a packaged event that has appeared in venues such as the Kodak Theatre in Los
Angeles and on PBS during annual fund raisers. Opening the show at 7:00 PM will be two tribute
artists showcasing the musical styles of Cher and Roy Orbison and other scheduled performers are:
JAY SIEGEL & THE TOKENS
The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Portrait of my Love, Tonight I Fell in Love
with their Special Guest JAY TRAYNOR
She Cried
JIMMY CLANTON & THE CONTOURS featuring SYLVESTER POTTS
Do You Love Me (Now that I Can Dance?), Shake Sherry, First I Look at the Purse
KATHY YOUNG
A Thousand Stars, Magic is the Night, Happy Birthday Blues
THE BLUE SUEDE ORCHESTRA
Buzz, Buzz, Buzz
The car show is based around the hot rod style of vehicles; there will be every type of auto you can
imagine. Jerry Titus of KKOA has informed us that registration is ahead of last year and is expecting
th
an even bigger crowd of entrants. This is the 30 anniversary of the “Lead Sled” and the Doo-Wop
concert should compliment the event nicely.
Be sure to check us out on Facebook, Twitter, or visit our website at www.bicentennail.org to get
information on all events. You can purchase tickets through our website to the spectacular Saturday
night concert featuring the ultimate Doo-Wop Show.
