RE: Application #M85-6, filed by the Development Advisory Committee requesting
revision of Section 8-409 dealing with fences.
On July 2, 1985, the Salina City Planning Commission considered a recommendation
from their Development Advisory Committee to amend Section 8-409 of the Salina
Code in order to permit security fences in the front yard setbacks of commercially
or industrially zoned land and also to eliminate a conflict between two sections of
code in regard to the use and placement of barbed wire. After deliberation at
that meeting, the Planning Commission voted unanimously (6-0) to recommend that
Section 8-409 be amended to read as follows:
Section 8-409. REQUIREMENTS FOR COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL FENCES.
Commercial or industrial fences may be of any class and the height thereof
shall not exceed ten (10) feet; provided that when such fences are built in
required front yard setback spaces (see zoning ordinance), they shall be
limited to class 3 type fences which shall not exceed a height of eight (8)
feet.
If you concur with this recommendation, the attached ordinance should be placed on
1st Reading today. 2nd Reading would then be scheduled for July 22, 1985.
