7.1 Fence Requirements CITY OF SALINA REQUEST FOR COMMI SS I ON ACT ION DATE TI ME 7/15/85 4:00 P.M. AGENDA SECTION: Development ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: APPROVED FOR NO. 7 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AGENDA: Planning Division ITEM NO. 1 BY: BY: RE: Application #M85-6, filed by the Development Advisory Committee requesting revision of Section 8-409 dealing with fences. On July 2, 1985, the Salina City Planning Commission considered a recommendation from their Development Advisory Committee to amend Section 8-409 of the Salina Code in order to permit security fences in the front yard setbacks of commercially or industrially zoned land and also to eliminate a conflict between two sections of code in regard to the use and placement of barbed wire. After deliberation at that meeting, the Planning Commission voted unanimously (6-0) to recommend that Section 8-409 be amended to read as follows: Section 8-409. REQUIREMENTS FOR COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL FENCES. Commercial or industrial fences may be of any class and the height thereof shall not exceed ten (10) feet; provided that when such fences are built in required front yard setback spaces (see zoning ordinance), they shall be limited to class 3 type fences which shall not exceed a height of eight (8) feet. If you concur with this recommendation, the attached ordinance should be placed on 1st Reading today. 2nd Reading would then be scheduled for July 22, 1985. COMMISSION ACTION MOTION BY SECOND BY TO: (Published in The Salina Journal July , 1985) ORDINANCE NUMBER 85-9080 AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE REQUIREMENTS FOR COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL FENCES; AMENDING SECTION 8-409 OF THE SALINA CODE AND REPEALING THE EXISTING SECTION. BE IT ORDAINED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina Kansas: Section 1. That Section 8-409 of the Salina Code is hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 8-409. Requirements for commercial and industrial fences. Commercial or industrial fences may be of any class and the height thereof shall not exceed ten (10) feet; provided that when such fences are built in required front yard setback spaces (see zoning regulations), they shall be limited to class 3 type fences which shall not exceed a height of eight (8) feet." and after Section 2. That the existing Section 8-409 is hereby repealed. Section 3. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from its adoption and publication once in the official city newspaper.
