On July 30, 1986, the Salina City Heritage Commission concluded a public hearing
on the above referenced application to grant HC designation to the Masonic

and historically significant asset to Salina based upon its unique style of
construction and its importance to Salina and this region; and
2. to recommend to the City Commission that Application #HC86-1 be approved and
that. Heritage Conservation (HC) Landmark designation be placed on this
property.
This property is proposed for HC designation for reasons fully discussed in the
staff report and include the following:
A. The structure was constructed from 1919-1922 at an approximate cost of
$1,000,000 in order to serve this area's many Masonic organizations. This is
the largest and finest Masonic Temple in northwest Kansas and possibly in the
region.
B. Architecturally, the structure is unique in Salina and materials used include
limestone, copper, marble, steel and concrete. Craftsmanship is of the
highest quality.
