Award contract to repair exterior of the Gypsum Hill Cemetery Hillcrest Mausoleum, project #10-
2819 to Mid-Continental Restoration Company, Fort Scott, KS in the amount of $32,190.
BACKGROUND:
Over time, the stone exterior of the building has developed several problems that are
in need of repair. The front entry steps have settled and cracked with moisture accumulating under the
footings. The masonry block wall mortar joints have deteriorated and need tuck pointing. The plaster
covering the rear foundation wa ll has loosened and needs r eplacing. Upon completion of these
repairs, the building will be sealed to extend the life of the buildi ng. The Parks and Recreation
Department/Building Maintenance Division received written propos als from qualified masonry
restoration companies to complete all repairs. Two bids were received as follows:
Restoration & Waterproofing Contractors, Wichita, KS $42,130
Mid-Continental Restoration Company, Fort Scott, KS $32,190
FISCAL NOTE:
The budget for this project is $34,000. Th e project was originally submitted in the
Buildings and Facilities S ub CIP, but due to budget li mitation this year, funding for the project will
come from the Gypsum Hill Cemetery Mausoleum Endowment Fund, which has a balance of $34,137.

RECOMMENDATION & CITY COMMISSION ACTION:
Staff recommends the City Commission award a contra ct to Mid-Continental Restoration Company,
Fort Scott, KS for exterior repairs to the Gypsum Hill Cemetery Hillcrest Mausoleum in the amount of
$32,190.
