Smoky Hill Museum
Kansas Days:
Monday through Friday: 669 total students, 138 adults
Saturday Public Open House: 144 adults and children
Participants: All USD 305 third grade classes, a private school, Solomon Elementary
and a home school group. Lucas/Luray was scheduled, but cancelled due to weather.
The Central Kansas Cooperative in Education provided escorts Monday through Friday
and presenters for Monday and Wednesday’s Pioneer Games and Pack Your Wagon
activities
Evaluations were handed out to teachers. Return was nearly 100%. Comments are
being tabulated.
Scheduled and paid busing costs for two schools.
Due to restricted budgets, several outlining schools that have participated in the past
where not allowed to take field trips.
Rails, Roundhouses and Rust Eaters, Temporary Exhibit, February 23 through December
5, 2010:
All research, script writing, exhibit design and label design completed in-house. Majority
of fabrication done in-house.
Hands-On activities: Train Tidbits, Sounds of the Rail, scale steam locomotive wheel
assembly and hand-powered rail car.
Take Home items: Train Glossary, Paper conductor caps provided by Amtrak.
All artifacts from Museum collections.
Permission received from Union Pacific Rail Road to use UP’s first logo.
