An ordinance authorizing the City Manager to exec ute a contract with Mid Kansas Underground for
fire protection of property located outside of the city limits.
BACKGROUND:
As per Section 14-1 of the City Code, the City may enter into a contract for fire protection for property
located outside the city limits. The property located at 1345 W. Old Highway 40 has had a contract
with the City of Salina since the mid 1990’s. Within the last year, the property was purchased by Mid
Kansas Underground (formally Ross Truck Lines). The attached ordinance allows the City Manager
to execute an updated contract.
FISCAL NOTE:
The property owner agrees to pay in advance each year a sum equivalent to 125% of the mill levy to
provide fire protection, with a maximum annual charge of $25,000. The cost to the property owner for
the protection would be approximately $1,200 annually.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Pass Ordinance No. 10-10532 on first reading.
