PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Public Law 94-33 states" ..... that Congress
declares the twenty-one days from Flag Day
through Independence day as a period to honor
America, that there be public gatherings and
activities at which the people celebrate and
their country in an appropriate manner", and
WHEREAS, the NationalSociety, Daughters of the American
Revolution is sponsoring a "21 Day Salute" to
honor America, throughout the nation, and
WHEREAS, Flag Day commemorates the anniversary of the
adoption of the American Flag in 1777, and
June 14 was designated as Flag Day in 1895, and
WHEREAS, The Fourth of July, Independence Day, is a
legal national holiday, commemorating the
adoption of the Declaration of Independence
on July 4, 1776, and
WHEREAS, The Fourth of July has been observed since
the days of the American Revolution, with
patriotic speeches, parades and open-air
meetings,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEPHEN C. RYAN, Mayor of the City of
Salina, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the
period from Flag Day to the Fourth of July,
1987, as the
"21 DAY SALUTE TO HONOR AMERICA"
in Salina, Kansas, and call upon all citizens
to:
Organize and participate in patriotic
celebrations,
Display the Flag of the United States of
America everyday, and
Study the Declaration of Independence 'and
- the History of the Flag of the United
States of America during this designated
time.
