4.2 Read Across America Day Whereas, Reading is beneficial to everyone; and
Whereas, It has been a skill that has been ignored and should be emphasized;
and
Whereas, Reading is a very essential aspect of a child's every day education;
and
Whereas, Through reading, people develop the necessary skills to succeed in
life; and
Whereas, Dr. Seuss is one of the most recognized authors in children's
literature; and
Whereas, On Dr. Seuss' birthday we wish to celebrate reading and Dr. Seuss'
impact on the lives of millions of children,
Now, therefore, I, Peter F. Brungardt, Mayor of the City of Salina, Kansas, do
hereby proclaim March 2, 1999 to be:
