7.1 Bergkamp Tax Exemption CITY OF SALINA REQUEST FOR CITY COMMISSION ACTION DATE 04/13/2009 TIME 4:00 P.M. AGENDA SECTION ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: APPROVED FOR NO: 7 AGENDA: DEVELOPMENT SERVICES ITEM PLANNING NO. 1 BY: Page 1 BY: Dean Andrew ITEM: Ordinance No. 09-10497 Consider adoption of revised 1 corrected ordinance granting final approval of a property tax exemption for Bergkamp, Inc. BACKGROUND: On March 2, 2009 the City Commission approved an ordinance formalizing a local property tax exemption granted to Bergkamp, Inc. for a new 34,500 sq. ft. building constructed at 500 East Schilling Road in Salina. A copy of this ordinance was required to be included in Bergkamp, Inc.'s exemption application to the State Board of Tax Appeals. The Board of Tax Appeals staff has requested that a date in Section 8 of the ordinance be changed from 2009 (the tax year) to 2010 (the calendar year) to be consistent with the order the Board of Tax Appeals will be writing granting the exemption. The exemption will be based on the valuation placed on the building by the County Appraiser on January 1, 2010. RECOMMENDED ACTION: To allow Bergkamp, Inc.'s application to be processed by the Board of Tax Appeals in a timely manner, staff would recommend passage of the attached ordinance with the revised date in Section 8. The remainder of the ordinance is unchanged. cc: Scott Bergkamp, Bergkamp, Inc.
