WHEREAS, March 6-12, 1988 has been designated nationally
as American Association of Women Week; and
WHEREAS, the American Association of University Women is
in its 89th year as a state organization and in its second
century as a National Association; and
WHEREAS, the Salina branch of the American Association of
University Women was established in 1924; and
WHEREAS, the Salina branch of AAUW as an organization of
educated women has sponsored and cooperated with other
community educational, civic and cultural activities; and
WHEREAS, individual members of the Salina branch of AAUW
have provided leaderships in education, the professions,
business and industry, as well as in policy making positions
on Boards of Trustees and in city government in Salina; and
WHEREAS, the American Association of University Women cele-
brates its heritage in conjunction with National Women's
History Month;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Stephen Ryan, Mayor of the city of Salina,
Kansas, do hereby proclaim March 6-12 as
AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN WEEK
and ask all your citizens to give recognition to the contri-.
bution of members of the Salina branch, past and present,
the history of Salina.
