Bids were received November 30, 1989, for installation of an underground sprinkler
system for Bill Burke Memorial Park. This project consisted of a base bid which
included irrigation for 4 fields and the auxiliary lawn area. Alternates were also
received, each alternate identified two additional fields to be irrigated. The bids
received for this project (89-792-B) are as follows:

All bids were reviewed and found to be valid. At a special Parks & Recreation Advisory
Board meeting held December 5, this project as well as others were discussed. Due to
the lighting of 5 diamonds and the change in field needs in scheduling that will
result, it is staff's feeling that irrigating 6 fields at this time would provide the
most benefit. Though $60,600 had originally been designated for this project this
year, other Recreation capital improvements have been completed for less than
originally estimated. The capital improvement budget will allow for the completion
of 6 diamonds and lawn if the low bid is approved.
It is the Parks & Recreation Dept.'s recommendation to award the bid to Earthcare
Services, Inc., for the base and alternate #1 (the irrigation of 6 diamonds and lawn)
for the amount of $73,511.46. The architect's estimate was $82,294.19 base and
$6,960.80 (alternate #1) totaling $89,254.99. Funding will be from the Recreation
Division capital improvement program.
