WHEREAS Engineers have used their scientific and technical knowledge
and skills in creative and innovative ways to fulfill society's
needs; and
WHEREAS Engineers face the major technological challenges of our
time-from rebuilding towns devastated by natural disasters to
designing an information superhighway; and
WHEREAS Engineers are encouraging our young math and science
students to realize the practical power of their knowledge;
and
WHEREAS We will look more than ever to engineers and their
knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of the future;
WHEREAS This year's theme for the event is "Engineers Make It Work".
NOW, THEREFORE, I, John K. Vanier II, Mayor of the City of Salina, Kansas, do
hereby proclaim the week of February 15 through February 21, 2009 as
"NATIONAL ENGINEERS WEEK"
in the City of Salina, and I urge all citizens to pay appropriate tribute to the Engineers in
our community for their contributions to our health, safety and welfare.
