ITEM: Award contract for the Brick Street Curb Repair, Project No. 07-2650.
BACKGROUND:
This project involves removing and replacing about 5,000 feet of deteriorated curb and gutter along
the east and west sides of West Park Lane, Fairdale Road and Greenway Road as well as the east
side of East Park Lane and the north and south sides of Crestview Drive. This project also includes
some work to repair heaved and settled brick pavement and the associated tree removal, sidewalk
repair, concrete driveway repair to go with it. The last project of this type was In 2000 when we
contracted with Bryant and Bryant for a full width brick street and curb rehabilitation project on Overhill
Road.
Last year on March 18, 2008, we received only one bid for this project and rejected it. Staff re-
evaluated the project and increased the limits of curb repair, revised the methods of construction, and
tried an open schedule type of proposal. This seems to have helped in reducing the bid prices and
attracting more bidders. We received six bids and the low bidder was much lower than the engineers
estimate. Some recent curb repair costs for 2005, 2007 and 2008 are $14.50, $18.40 and $26.50
respectively. The bid price on this 2009 proposal for curb repair is $17.00 per linear foot.
On Tuesday, January 27,2009, bids were received for this project and are as follows:
