The Planning staff has been contacted by a local business that has expressed
interest in working with the City to prepare a CDBG Economic Development
loan application to the state. According to Kansas Department of Commerce
(KDOC) guidelines, governing bodies must first hold a preliminary public
hearing to receive proposals from businesses interested in applying for
financial assistance under the business financing program. The deadline for
the third round of loan applications is October 31. Staff has requested
that interested businesses submit a formal letter of intent to the City
Commission.
Recommended Action
Schedule a public hearing of 4:00 p.m. on September 25, 1989, to receive
proposals from any interested business. Upon closure of the public hearing,
the city Commission may direct staff to proceed with an application in
cooperation and on behalf of a particular local business.
