Consideration of options on Second Street Project
issue
As we discussed briefly at a previous meeting, staff has been preparing some options
for Commission consideration involving possible changes in the scope of the Second
Street Storm Drainage (Slough) Project. The attached memorandum gives background
information and some advantages/disadvantages of each option. The issue involves what
(if any) improvements may be made to the east half of Second Street (running north from
Crawford). The west half of the street is already scheduled for replacement as part of
the original project.
Options:
Option A: No change in scope of project as originally planned. The west half of
iSecond Street would be replaced; the east side would be left in its current condition
Added Project Cost: Zero
Option B: Replace west side as planned. In addition, remove east side concrete and
replace with new concrete at the same time.
Added Project Cost: $94,000 (est.)
Option C: Replace west side as planned. In addition, remove and replace only the .
curbs, gutters, driveways, etc. on east side, leaving the concrete roadway on the east
half as a base. Overlay street on both east (new) and west (existing) halves with
asphalt.
Added project cost: $58,000 (est.)
· Staff Recommendation: Staff has no specific recommendation as to whether the street
should be fully replaced at this time. It is very much a policy and preference
decision on the .Commission's part as to whether this is a place you wish to spend
$58,000 - $94,000. However, if your decision is to charge the project scope and
improve the full street, staff believes Option C to be the most cost-effective. ....
