Carver Center proposal,
CGt~ISS ION ACTION
MOTION BY SECOND BY
TO:
Honorable r~qyor Joe ~mer, City commisssioners
My concern today is to comment on the use of the various Community centers
and their usefulness to the Uommunity as places of meeting . ~. for the
many concerned citizens of Salina,
For the past 50 years the use of Carver Center has served the minority
members of the Community as a meeting place and a area that was created
not specifically but mainly for the Black Citizens of Salina, and until
recent years it is the designated center for all groups to use,.,which certainly
and rightfully so and not for a certain group but for the use of all concerne~
As we come before the Salina city ~ommission to present our gzpviousis as well
:5'vote of thanks to yu6 for your many concez~s in helping our citer live up
to the recent Title, "SALINA TH~ALL~%Iv~RICAN City" Our concerrn today is if
we are to live out that title we do not want any of our citizens deprived
of the use of ~"f~}acilities because thatislac~ the funds ~%~t° continue~//~~ O~
use them as a meetig place in the future. ~e would like for ~o~o consider
continuin~ the use of the facilities on a non-fee basis as they have~een in
past.
My other concerns are tha~the facilities in the past few years were the
results of Block Grant Funds created under the H U D for the use of the
less fortunate and to let them realize that the money set aside was not
set aside to segregate but to the uplifting of ~.~ l{ that were not .fortunate
enough to cre. ate their'own.~
Today we see the country~,rev~ersing the many ~ decisions that has been
the backbone of giving our country the right of all citizens to enjoy
especially the minorities and the Womenl of our great .coun.t~y, nam

Let u~ keep the City on the move, Your city of opporyunity and the~ity that
works, for the good of all its Worthy citizens and not the chosen few.
