Bids were received on April 27, 1989, at 10:00 a.m. for joint and crack sealing
work on various streets that will be resurfaced this year.. The bids received for
work (Project No. 89-782) are tabulated below:
(a) Ballou Construction Company, Inc.
(b) J. H. Shears' Sons, Inc.
$67,925.00

The two (2) bids were then reviewed by our office and the bids were found to be
valid. It is our recommendation, therefore, that the contract for the above street
improvement work (Project No. 89-782) be awarded to Ballou Construction Company,
Inc., Salina, Kansas, who submitted the low bid of $67,925.00. The Engineer's
Estimate for this project was $80,275.00.
This work is the first of three projects included in our 1989 street improvement
program. The other two projects (Bituminous Overlay and r. licro-Surfacing).will be
scheduled 'for letti.ngs within 60 days. We anticipate spending, in contract
maintenance alone, apProximately $600,000 .("$550,000 Special Gas Tax and $50,000
Sales Tax) this year for these three projects.
