ITEM:
Amend the 2008 Sales Tax Sub-CIP to include construction and financing of a new family aquatic
facility.
BACKGROUND:
On August 18, the City Commission approved on second reading, a charter ordinance allowing the
City to issue up to $12.5 million in bonds for construction of a family aquatic park. Also on that date,
the City Commission approved an ordinance submitting to voters the question of a .40% special
retailers' sales tax in part to pay for the construction, operation and maintenance of a family aquatic
park in the Kenwood Park area. With the passage of the Sales Tax Referendum Tuesday, November
4, the funding source is now available to move forward with design and construction of a new family
aquatic center. If authorized, design will start immediately with construction anticipated to begin in
spring of 2009.
FISCAL NOTE:
The .40% sales tax for 10 years extends the existing .25% tax with the additional .15% to be used for
construction, operation, and financing a new family aquatic park. It is projected the additional .15%
sales tax will generate over 15 million dollars in the 10 year period.
CONFORMANCE 1/Vt=f8 STRATEGIC E!AN:
Goal #3 The City will provide the highest quality of services, consistent with governing body direction,
available resources and staff commitment to quality.
COMMISSION ACTION:
