Background
This project entails a 2-inch asphalt overlay of the existing pavement on Cloud
Street from Ohio Street east to Parkwood Avenue. This street has become an on-
going maintenance problem for-the General Services Department. It is felt that
if the pavement is not rehabilitated at this time, it may require total
reconstruction within a few years at a much higher cost.
One valid bid was received for this project on Tuesday, September 18, 1990, as
follows:
J. H. Shears' Sons, Inc. of Salina $25,537.50 Commence September 24;
45 Calendar days
The 1990 budget allocates $600,000 in special gas tax for the 1990 street
improvement program. The Engineer's estimate for the projec~ is $33,500. In
addition to this bituminous overlay project, other contract maintenance in 1990
includes crack sealing and slurry seal over 10 miles of pavements, railroad
crossing resurfacing, manhole ?egrading and concrete pavement repair.
Recommendation
It is recon~ended that the City Commission award the contract for Bituminous
Overlay Project No. 90-811 to J. H. Shears' Sons, Inc. of Salina in the amount
of $25,537.50.
