4.2 Celebrate Salina's 150th Birthday
PROCLAMATION
September 2008
Salina's Sesquicentennial
WHEREAS, In February and March of 1858, three men, William A. Phillips, Alexander
Campbell, and James Muir walked from Lawrence, Kansas, to the banks of
the Smoky Hill River and started to layout the town of Salina, Kansas; and
WHEREAS, on April 22, 1858, the Salina Township Company was organized and
composed of the following members: William A. Phillips, Alexander
Campbell, James Muir, David Phillips and Alexander Spilman; and
WHEREAS, on March 30, 1859, the Salina Town Company was granted a charter by the
Sixth Territorial Legislature of Kansas; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Salina recognize the forethought and sacrifices made by our
Founding Fathers to establish the town of Salina. The Salina
Sesquicentennial Committee also wishes to acknowledge all citizens of
Salina throughout the past 150 year for their contribution to keep Salina a
vibrant, growing community;
SO NOW, THEREFORE
I, John K. Vanier, II, Mayor of the City of Salina, Kansas, do hereby
proclaim Saturday, September 27, 2008, as the day to
Celebrate Salina's 150th Birthday
and urge that every citizen in Salina join me in celebrating the founding
of our community.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Seal of the City of Salina, Kansas to be
affixed this 15th day of September, 2008.
