ITEM:Ordinance No. 08-10457
An ordinance attesting to the possible increase in taxes levied for budget year 2009 necessary to
finance public services for the City of Salina, Kansas.
BACKGROUND:
Kansas statutes require us to do a computation each year to determine whether we are raising taxes
or not. The computation, as defined by statute, excludes any taxes levied for debt service, and also
includes adjustments for new improvements, for increases in personal property, for valuation in
annexed territory, and for valuation of property that has changed in use. As a matter of practice, for
the last several years we have passed the ordinance each year, even though we may not be required
to do so. The ordinance is scheduled for second reading on August 11 in conjunction with the budget
hearing.
FISCAL NOTE:
Passage of the ordinance has no fiscal impact.
