4.2 Fair Housing MonthWIIIi~F~, The month of April marks the twenty-second Anniversary
of the passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968 as
amended; and
W~I~aiF~S, The Salina Human Relations Commission is celebrating
its Eighth Annual Fair Housing Conference on April 6,
1990. The theme this year is "Fair and Accessible
Housing in the Nineties"; and
WHEREAS, Fair Housing is the policy of the City of Salina;
implementation of that policy requires the positive
commitment, involvement and support of each one of our
citizens; and
WRgREAS, The Human Relations Commission/Department of the City
of Salina is to provide leadership in the effort to
make Fair Housing not just an idea, but a reality for
all of our citizens; and
WHEREAS, Barriers that diminish the rights and limit the options
of any citizen will ultimately diminish the rights and
limit the options of all; and
WHEREAS, Since Fair Housing is consistent with the principle
of equality and justice for all - principles upon which
our nation was founded, ail of us need to share in the
fight to ensure that Fair Housing is a reality of all
Americans; and
WHEREAS, The Amended Act of 1988 has provided coverage for
mental and physical handicapped persons and familial
status, and ensures coverage for the elderly in
designing housing accessibility for all; and
SO NOW, T~REFORE, i Joseph A. Warner, Mayor of the City of Salina,
Kansas, do hereby proclaim the month of April, 1990 as
FAIR HOUSING MONTH
I urge ail of our citizens to join in this observance by resolving
to fight discrimination in their personal daily lives and by making
themselves aware of the Fair Housing Law and the ways in which it
applies to our community.
