Request to name the south baseball field at Fast Crawford Recreation Area in honor of
Mr. Dean Evans.
With completion of this field, commonly referred to as the south or premier field, the high
schools and Kansas Wesleyan University have utilized the facility this past spring. I am
pleased to say a number of compliments have been received regarding the quality of the
facility. Undoubtedly, a quality facility will generate play in addition to regular high
school, college, and summer league play. High school regionals and state, college
tournaments, as well as invitational, regional, and state Babe Ruth and American Legion
summer programs are currently being considered for future seasons.
A request was made to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board by Mr. Dick Renfro to
name the E.C.R.A."premier" baseball field Dean Evans Stadium. Mr. Evans has been very
involved in baseball programs in Salina for over 40 years. Not only has he sponsored the
American Legion programs for over 25 years and teams in the Babe Ruth programs, both
programs independent of City Recreation organization, he has made considerable
contributions in support of recreation department leagues as well. This support has
included Pee Wee, Midget, Police and Junior League Baseball teams and youth softball
teams. In recognition for his involvement with youth sports, Mr. Evans has been
inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.
RECOMMENDATION
The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board approved this request at their May 21 meeting
and recommends the City Commission approve Resolution//91-4305 naming the E.C.R.A.
south field Dean Evans Stadium.
