1991 Community Development Block Grant Program.
Background
The Kansas Department of Commerce has released the 1991 application forms
and schedule for the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
program. The city may apply for up to $300,000 for a single-purpose
activity. Some of the eligible activities are: housing rehabilitation,
water and sewer system improvements, community centers, handicapped
accessibility, street construction, and storm sewer improvements. Grant
applications are awarded on a competitive basis according to community need
and effort, project quality and impact and benefit to low and moderate
income persons.
The application deadline is April 19, 1991. In order to make application,
two public hearings must be held. The first hearing is to discuss existing
needs, available funding and potential projects. The second hearing is to
receive comments on a proposed application. The recommended hearing dates
are March 18 and April 15, 1991.
Recommended Action
If the City Commission wishes to proceed with a CDBG application for 1991,
a motion should be passed setting the required public hearings and
directing staff to develop and present a proposed project.
