COMMISSION INFORMATION MEMORANDUM
VOL. 24, NO. 17
ADMINISTRATIVE BRIEF FROM JOE PAUGH
May 31,2002
The Computer Technology Department is currently busy installing 97 new PC's for the
City and County offices. Many of the PC's being replaced are to be reconfigured for other
uses, so the number of actual installations is closer to 150. This is expected to take the
better part of the next 12 weeks to get everything installed and working as expected.
We have several recent accomplishments in the Public Safety area. The 911 call system
is now interfaced with our Computer Aided Dispatch system. This relieves the
dispatchers of having to enter basic call information into the dispatch system. Data
Mapping and Analysis is a new module that allows law enforcement to generate maps
and to visually display crime information. Another feature added to the Criminal Records
module allows Microsoft Word documents as well as scanned images to be stored as part
of the overall case record. FiRally, the system that records all of the dispatch calls was
changed to allow recordings to be made to CDROM. These have better sound quality
than tapes and are easier to understand when replayed in court room proceedings.
Our payroll process has been simplified by the addition of an automated check signing
feature. This removes some of the manual steps in generating checks while maintaining
a secure process. Additionally, it allowed us to eliminate some customizations that we
had to maintain in our payroll system.
