BACKGROUND: The Salina Fire Department’s EM S Division has been in the proce ss of upgrading its patient care reporting system to a web based software called EMS C harts. In order to run EMS Charts the fire department needs to purchase four Panasonic Toughbook computers. The Toughbooks when teamed with EMS Charts will allow for complete electronic patient charting capabilitie s as well as provide quality assurance auditing for monitoring all aspects of critical care and transports of patients. The acquisition of the Toughbooks and EMS Charts will al so assist in transferring information to our current billing software delivering information utilizing a web based database that stores patient demographics and patient care information. At the end of 2006, it was evident that a decision could not be made at that time on what software we would be using, so a request was made to carry over the funds into the 2007 CT sub-CIP budget. The $17,483.40 will be taken from the 2007 CT sub-CIP budget. CONFORMANCE WITH THE STRATEGIC PLAN: GOAL #3: The City will provide the highest quality of services, consistent with Governing Body direction, available resources and staff commitment to quality . COMMISSION ACTION: The Fire Administration recommends consideration of the following options: 1) Approve the purchase of four Panasonic Toughbooks in the amount of $17,483.40 from CDW-G. 2) Disapprove the request. The Fire Administration recommends Option 1.
