Approval of the 1992 Manhole Regrading Project No. 92-866 and setting of date
to receive bids on the project.
Background
This project involves the raising of manhole covers located in pavements which
have been resurfaced to the point that the manhole cover has created a
depression. When the depression falls in the wheel path of a street, the
rideability of the street is obviously sacrificed and a hazard is created for
vehicles. Typically, the need for regrading of manhole covers occurs only
after two or three slurry seals are placed on the street which would usually
take place over a number of years. The manholes in question serve as access
points for maintenance of sanitary sewer mains, storm sewer mains and water
mains.
This program is proposed to take place on approximately 20 different streets
throughout the city. Approximately 120 manholes or water valve boxes will be
regraded in this year's program.
The 1992 budget allocates $600,000 from the special gas tax for the 1992 street
improvement program. The estimated cost for manhole regrading is $35,000.
Other contract maintenance conducted this year includes crack sealing and
slurry seal over 10 miles of pavements, railroad crossing regrading, concrete
pavement and curb and gutter repair.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Commission set Tuesday, November 17, 1992, as
the date to receive bids for the 1992 Manhole Regrading Project No. 92-866 and
Monday, November 23, 1992, as the date to award the contract.
