A resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a farm lease agreement with Eastridge
Development, Inc. in the amount of $2,580.00.
BACKGROUND:
This is the second of two farm lease agreements concerning land purchased by the City as a part of
the North Ohio Overpass Project which is located on North Marymount Road across from the
Wastewater Treatment Plant. The other agreement was approved last week.
This land was to help provide ground where an additional railroad spur could be installed between two
sets of tracks that travel under the Overpass. The addition of this railroad track spur helped make
possible the reduction in the number of crossings that citizens would have to travel across.
Some of the excess land not used for the railroad tracks was to be considered for a possible future
City composting site. However, in the meantime without any agricultural activity on this ground, weeds
began to grow and City crews were dispatched to mow them down.
To reduce City maintenance expenses as a result of mowing weeds, a farming leasing contract was
entered into with Eastridge Development Inc. for a term commencing on October 1, 2004 and
continuing until November 1, 2007. The City was to receive $2,580.00 for rent of tracts 17 (see map).
The lease amount is based on $40 per acre times the number of acres.
The term of the new agreement shall be for a period of twelve (12) months commencing on November
1, 2007 and shall be renewed automatically for a like term unless terminated in writing ninety (90)
days prior to the end of the initial term or any renewal term or otherwise term inated in accordance with
the relevant provisions of this contract, subject to the right of Lessee to harvest any crops that are
growing on the date this lease terminates. The amount of rent for the new lease is $2,580.00.
FISCAL NOTE:
The City will receive $2,580.00 for the rent.
CONFORMANCE WITH THE STRATEGIC PLAN:
Goal 3: The City will provide the highest quality of services, consistent with governing body direction
available resources and staff commitment to quality.
COMMISSION ACTION:
Staff recommends approving Resolution No. 07-6443 authorizing the City Manager to execute a farm
lease agreement with Eastridge Development, Inc. in the amount of $2,580.00.
