In December, 1990, a contract was awarded to Maguire Iron, Inc. to paint five (5)
of our elevated water tanks. The Contractor, Maguire Iron, has completed work on
the Wyatt Tower, Airport Tower, and the Gold Road Tower.
During the sandblasting and cleaning operations on the Airport Tower, several
defects were identified that needed corrective action prior to final application
of the paint system on this 150,000 gallon tank. These items include the
following:
(a) Construct access manhole: +$825
(b) Welding plates on roof: +$850
(c) Welding plate over pitted area: +$500
(d) Paint revisions: -$1,000
(e) Removal of external indicator: $200
All of these items are necessary for safety and maintenance considerations. We
have reviewed the scope of work to be performed and a change order has been
prepared for your consideration.
It is our recommendation the City Commission approve Change Order No. 3 (Project
No. 90-817) in the amount of $1,375 and authorize the Mayor to execute this
change order. Due to peak water usage during the next four (4) months, painting
operations have been suspended until September. The remainder of the towers, Key
Acres and Sunset, will be painted this fall.

Description of Change
The following changes in the Scope of Work shall be made at the Airport Tower.
1. Construct access manhole.
2. Remove cathodic protection rods and weld plates over holes in the roof.
3. Weld ¼" thick plate over 3/16" deep pit area.
4. Paint base of Airport Tower white in lieu of checker board. -
5. Remove water level indicator.

REASON FOR CHANGE:
1. Provide better access ~r personnel and bett~r ventilation.
2. Removal of cathodic protection rods leaves holes in the top of the tank.
3. 3/16" deep pits in 14" plate is unacceptable.
4. Checkerboard painting of base of tower not required.
5. Water level indicator not used and interferes with proper sandblasting and painting
of tank.
