to receive bids.
Background
This project is a major component of the 1992 Street Improvement Program.
"Latex Modified Slurry Seal," also referred to as "Micro-Surfacing," is an
accepted method of pavement surface treatment which prolongs the serviceability
of asphalt streets by creating a moisture-resistant barrier. This process has
been successfully used in Salina for more then eight years. Combined with
proper joint and crack sealing, the slurry seal program extends the service
life of most pavements by more than five years.
A list and map of the streets included in this year's program is attached. The
slurry seal program will directly follow the .joint and crack sealing program on
most of the same streets. Approximately 20 lane miles of pavement will be
treated ~ith this project.
The 1992 budget allocated $480,000 in special gas tax funds for the 1992 street
improvement program. The cost of this project is estimated to be $300,000. In
addition to the slurry seal project, other contract maintenance in 1992 will
include crack sealing, asphalt overlays, concrete pavement repair and manhole
regrading.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Commission set Tuesday, March 17, 1992 as the
date to receive bids for the Latex Modified Slurry Seal Project No. 92-856.
