4.4 Salina Volunteer Income Tax Whereas over 50 volunteers were trained in 1993 to
participate in the community service program known as Volunteer Income
Tax Assistance (VITA); and
WHEREAS, these volunteers throughout Salina recognize a
need and unselfishly offer their time, talents, and abilities to meet
the need; and
WHEREAS, the VITA volunteers assist the economically
disadvantaged, the elderly, the non-English speaking, and the
handicapped taxpayers throughout Salina by providing free income tax
preparation on the basic state and federal returns; and
WHEREAS, this year, Salina VITA volunteers will operate
10 sites in the city of Salina. During the three month filing period,
VITA volunteers will prepare over 5,000 state and federal tax returns
and rebate forms, and provide information and assistance to hundreds
more, all free.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Carol Beggs,
Mayor of the City of Salina, do hereby proclaim the week of April 4
through April 10, 1993, as:
