Authorizing the Mayor to sign an agreement by and between the City of Salina and the Salina
Unified School District No. 305, setting forth the terms, covenants and conditions relative to the City
assigning four uniformed law enforcement officers to the District to serve in the School Resource
Officer program.
BACKGROUND:
Salina Unified School District No. 305 and the City of Salina (represented by Dr. Peg Dokken-Opat
and Chief Hill, respectively) have crafted an agreement which stipulates terms, covenants and
conditions relative to the City assigning four specially trained law enforcement officers to serve the
District’s middle and high schools in our School Resource Officer (SRO) program.
Under the terms of the agreement (attached hereto), during the 2007-2008 school year, the District
will fund the SRO program during the 180-day school year. During the summer months when school
is not in session, the City will fund the officers.
Since its inception in 1997, our SRO program has represented an extremely successful,
collaborative effort between the District and City to promote, provide and maintain for our student
citizens the best possible learning environment.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve Resolution No. 07-6420 authorizing the Mayor to sign the SRO agreement.
