Award contract for the 2007 Brick Street Ribbon Repair, Project No. 07-2650.
BACKGROUND:
This project involves the removal and replacement of special curb and gutter and the removal and
replacement of brick pavers along the east side of West Park Lane and the north side of Crestview
Drive. The curb and gutter on these streets has experienced sever deterioration in several spots. In
the past, the City of Salina has contracted for other brick street rehabilitation projects. The latest
being the full width rehab on Overhill Road. That project was completed in May 2000. It is anticipated
that this project will serve as a pilot project to determine the cost, effectiveness and quality of future
Brick Street Ribbon repair and rehabilitation projects. Information gathered from this project will be
used to develop a brick street ribbon repair policy and also be incorporated into the City's pavement
management system.
Bids were received for this project on Tuesday, June 12,2007, as follow:

FISCAL NOTE:
The 2007 Budget allocates $50,000 in special gas tax funds from the 2007 street maintenance
program for this repair.
COMFORMANCE WITH STRATEGIC PLAN:
Goal 3: The City will provide the highest quality of services, consistent with governing body direction,
available resources and staff commitment to quality.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is recommended that the City Commission reject the bid for the 2007 Brick Street Ribbon Repair,
Project No. 07-2650 and direct staff to investigate alternative designs, construction methods and
timeframe needed to complete this project within the Engineer's estimated cost.
