83-3640 Purchase Former Post Office BuildingLJ u RESOLUTION NUMBER 83-3640 A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR TO SIGN AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT AND TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO PURCHASE A BUILDING. WHEREAS, K.S.A. 1981 Suppl. 12-2904 authorizes local governmental units to make the most efficient use of their powers by enabling them to cooperate with other governmental units on the basis of mutual advantage and thereby to provide service in a manner that will best serve the needs of the community in the most efficient and economical manner; and WHEREAS, Saline County and the City of Salina desire to establish a historical and cultural museum by entering into an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement, pursuant to the Interlocal Cooperation Act, K.S.A. 12-2901 to 12-2907, inclusive, as amended; and WHEREAS, Saline County on April 5, 1983, did adopt an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement pertaining to the administration and financing of a local historical museum, SO NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina, Kansas: Section 1. That the Mayor is authorized to sign the Interlocal Cooperation Agreement by and between the City of Salina, Kansas and Saline County, Kansas, the purpose of this agreement is to provide for the acquisition of an appropriate building for the purpose of the preservation and display of records, documents and articles of historical value or interest to Salina, Saline County and Central Kansas and further to provide for the collection, acquisition and preservation of records, documents and other articles of historical value or interest. Section 2. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is authorized and directed to negotiate with the U.S. Postal Service for the purchase of the Post Office at 211 W. Iron at a price not to exceed $250,000 and that the City Manager is authorized to pay a deposit not to exceed 10% of the purchase price and to pay for said building at a closing date not earlier than December 1, 1984. - Adopted by the Board of Commissioners and signed by the Mayor this 18th day of April, 1983.
