8.2 Amend Bldg Facil SubCIP AGENDA NO.8 CITY OF SALINA REQUEST FOR COMMISSION ACTION DATE TIME 04/15/02 4:00pm APPROVED FOR AGENDA: ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: PARKS & RECREATION ITEM NO. 2 BY: STEVE SNYDER ,SS BY: Item: Amend 2002 Buildings and Facilities Plan, Sub CIP to include purchase of irrigation pumps for the Municipal Golf Course Background: When the par 3 course was designed and built in 2000, long term irrigation needs for the entire course were taken into consideration. Utilizing the detention pond built in conjunction with the course, a pump station was designed to irrigate the par 3 course, but with the ability to expand to include the 18-hole course. The current system includes a 25,000-gallon tank located inside the maintenance building with four wells located near Bill Burke Park as the water source. The main pump and supporting valves, though rebuilt several times, are most likely original equipment used since the course opened in 1970. One of the main valves is in need of replacement, and after reviewing costs and current condition of the remaining components, it is staffs recommendation that we add to the new pump station to serve the 18-hole irrigation system. All tie-ins from the new station to the existing system have been completed. One 500 gallon per minute pump was installed initially for the Par 3 course. The pump station has capacity for two additional 500 gpm pumps that will provide for our present needs of 1200 gpm. The additional pumps must be compatible with the previously installed pump, and purchased from the same supplier. Cost for the two pumps, all supporting equipment, and installation is $24,790. Based on the financial status of the golf course in 2001, this item was not included in the 2002 budget. Through March, revenues have exceeded both 2000 and 2001 first quarter revenues. It is staffs feeling that course financial conditions are such that this project can be added at this time, but due to the uncertainty of weather and related play, we are recommending delay of the purchase of a replacement mower ($18,000) scheduled for second quarter. Recommendation: It is staffs recommendation the City Commission amend the 2002 Buildings and Facilities Plan, Sub CIP to include the purchase and installation of two pumps for the Salina Municipal Golf Course from Midwest Pump and Control, Inc., Spring Hill, KS for $24,790.
