Change Order No. 1 for the 2000 Latex Modified Slurry Seal, Project No. 00-1209.
BACKGROUND
The 2000 Latex Modified Slurry Seal Project is in full swing. In fact, it is nearly complete. With
this annual street maintenance project, approximately 10 miles of streets have been treated with
crack seal and slurry seal applications. This preventative maintenance process extends the life of
these asphalt streets by five to eight years before another application is needed.
Minor problems were encountered last week on two of the street sections, East Crawford Street
and West Republic Avenue. It was determined in the field that additional layers of slurry seal
were necessary in order to address the pavement rutting on East Crawford Street and to adequately
cover the Concrete pavement on West Republic Avenue. Due to the length of the East Crawford
Street section, the quantity of additional slurry seal material is quite large. Approximately 1.5
lane miles of additional slurry seal or 23,795 square yards of material was placed. The attached
Change Order No. I addresses the additional scope of work and costs for the project. The total
amount of the change order is $45,210.50 or 23.5 percent over the original contract amount of
$192,045.00. If approved, the adjusted contract amount will be $237,255.50.
This project is one of several contract street maintenance projects included in the 2000 Street
Maintenance Program. The 2000 Budget allocates $1,300,000 is special gas tax funds for the
program. The budget for the 2000 Street Maintenance Program includes contingencies for each
project which appear adequate to absorb this unforeseen cost increase without negatively affecting
the feasibility of the other projects.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission approve Change Order No. 1 for the 2000 Latex
Modified Slurry Seal, Project No. 00-1209, in the amount of $45,210.50.

THIS AGREEMENT, made and entered into this 9TH day of MAY ,
1999, by and between the CITY OF SALINA, KANSAS, Owner, and the above
named Contractor, modifies the existing contract dated FEBRUARY 28, 2000,
under the above subject, project and project number in the following
particulars to wit:
1. The specifications and drawings for certain Subdivision Improvements in
the City of Salina, Kansas, dated JANUARY, 2000 , are hereby amended in the
following particulars only; all other terms and conditions remain unchanged.
ITEM DESCRIPTION
2 Add "LATEX MODIFIED SLURRY SEAL (TYPE B)" for a scratch coat on
concrete street and to fill ruts on another existing street,
23,795 square yards.
2. The undersigned proposes to furnish all tools, appliances, equipment,
materials, and labor required to complete the construction in a thorough,
workmanlike, and satisfactory manner in accordance with the drawings,
specifications, and contract documents, for the following prices.
