Change Order No. 1 for the 1994 Subdivision Improvements, Project
No. 94-892B.
Background
The project involves street and storm drainage improvements in
seven (7) different subdivisions throughout Salina. The City
Commission approved the contract on February 15, 1994.
The contractor, J. H. Shears' Sons, Inc. completed the project in
accordance with the plans and specifications and on schedule.
Before the contract can be completed, a change order is necessary
to correct the final quantities of contract items to reflect the
actual amounts installed. It is normal in a project of this scope
to slightly over or under estimate the amounts of bid items
actually needed. In this case, the contract overrun is $11,288.11
or 1.9% of the original contract amount of $599,019.70.
Also included in this change order are two new items, one for storm
pipe adjustment and one for special grading. These additional
items became necessary in Golden Eagle Estates due to a design
error by the owner's private engineering firm.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Commission approve Change Order No.
1 for 1994 Subdivision Improvements, Project No. 94-892B, in the
amount of $15,489.36.

THIS AGREEMENT, made and entered into this 17th . day of October
1994, by and between the CITY OF SALINA, KANSAS, Owner, and the above
named Contractor, modifies the existing contract dated February 15,. 1994,
under the above subject, project and project number in the following
particulars to wit:
1. The ~specifications and drawings for certain street improvements in
the City of Salina, Kansas, dated January .... - 1994 , are hereby
amended in the following particulars only; all other terms and
conditions remain unchanged.

54 - 57 items including coffee, on excavation, curb and ~utter,
storm pipeline, asphalt pavement, etc.
58 Add one (1) lump sum for Special Pipe Adjustment
where the contractor was required to remove and
replace approximately 40 (?) linear feet of 18"~RCP
(?) in Golden Eagle Estates due to a design error
by the private engineering firm.
59 Add one (1) lump sum for Special Grading where the
contractor was required to fill and recompact part
of the road bed in Golden Eagle Estates due to a
design error by the private engineering firm.
2. The undersigned proposes to furnish all tools, appliances, equipment,
materials, and labor required to complete the construction in a thorough,
workmanlike, and satisfactory manner in accordance with the drawings,
specifications, and contract documents, for the following prices:
